Essential oil glass bottle as a professional container for essential oils, its design and material selection closely around the essential oils “volatile, easy to oxidize, need to avoid light” and other characteristics. The following is a detailed analysis of the characteristics, classification and application scenarios:
I. Core characteristics of essential oil glass bottles
1. Material characteristics: high-purity glass and light-avoidance design
Light-avoidance:
Dark-colored glass (e.g., dark brown, dark green, blue) is used to block ultraviolet rays (especially UV-A and UV-B), preventing the essential oils from being decomposed or deteriorated due to light exposure (e.g., citrus oils oxidize easily in the presence of light).
Some high-end products use frosted glass or sprayed light-absorbing coatings to enhance the light-blocking effect.
Chemical Stability:
uses high borosilicate glass (e.g. 3.3 borosilicate glass) or pharmaceutical grade glass, which is acid and alkali resistant and does not react with terpenes, phenols and other components of essential oils to avoid affecting the purity of essential oils.
Sealability:
High precision of bottle top (e.g. fine threads, flat mouth), with silicone stopper, cork or vacuum fittings, to minimize the entry of air and prevent the essential oils from evaporating (the rate of evaporation of essential oils is about 50 times that of water).
2. Volume and shape: suitable for essential oil use
Small volume: 1ml, 2ml, 5ml, 10ml, 15ml, 30ml, which is easy to control the dosage (essential oils usually need to be diluted and used only a few drops at a time), and also reduces the risk of oxidization after opening.
Various shapes:
Roller ball bottle: stainless steel or glass roller ball built in the bottle mouth, convenient for direct application (e.g. compound essential oils, walking beads perfume);
Dropper bottle: with glass dropper, precise liquid extraction (e.g. single essential oils need to be blended by drops);
Spray bottle: atomized nozzle to mix essential oils with carrier oil / water and then spray (e.g. air freshening spray);
Wide-mouth bottle: wide-mouth bottle suitable for essential oils blending by pouring in the carrier oils or adding solids (e.g. essential oil face mask blending). Wide mouth bottle: suitable for pouring base oil or adding solid ingredients when blending essential oils (e.g. essential oil mask blending).
3. Professional accessories: anti-evaporation and convenient access
Dropper system:
Glass dropper (borosilicate glass) is resistant to corrosion of essential oils, with a clear scale, each time you take about 0.05ml (1 drop), to avoid waste;
Some high-end droppers are equipped with a dust cap, to prevent essential oils from evaporation or contamination.
Bottle cap combination:
screw cap + inner stopper: the inner stopper is made of silicone or PTFE, which seals and prevents leakage when the dropper is inserted or removed;
cork + aluminum cap: retro design, the cork elasticity fits the bottle mouth, and the aluminum cap prevents the cork from being deformed by humidity (mostly used in essential oils).
